Saturday Sangria: Thai Basil with Pinot Grigio

Summertime always makes me dream of exotic faraway places… Places where always-warm beaches are weekend destinations, only a short drive away, and where citrus fruits grow heavy on trees so ubiquitously that picking them seems almost like a hassle.  Those are the kind of chores I’d love to be burdened with!

Until Ontario becomes a tropical province, I’ll have to content myself with sipping the flavours of exotic destinations.  Luckily there are recipes like this week’s Thai Basil sangria with Pinot Grigio to indulge my wanderlust…

If, like me, you’re dreaming of Koh Samui, Phuket and Krabi, this sangria from Appetite for China will help satisfy your thirst for faraway flavours.  It’s simple and straightforward, so you’ll spend less time in the kitchen and more time on the patio, dreaming of the beach.  Pinot Grigio is the perfect pairing for orange and thai basil; it’s medium in body and dry in finish, with flavours of apple, pear and melon – the perfect crisp elixir to cut through the heat.
